ABOUT

Twenty years on the other side of the table.

I spent two decades in the rooms where careers are decided: hiring panels, promotion rounds and restructures. Now I sit on your side of the table and help you get ready for them.

Sarah Lane, career and executive coach, in her London studio
“The best career decisions are rarely the boldest. They’re the ones you can still explain to yourself a year later.”
Sarah Lane

I started in graduate recruitment at a large high-street retailer, moved into HR business partnering, and spent my last six corporate years as Director of Talent at a 4,000-person financial services firm. I sat on hundreds of promotion panels, and I saw how often good people missed out for reasons that had little to do with their work.

In 2008 I trained as a coach and left to work with people directly. I wanted to spend my time on the conversations that happen before the panel, not the ones that happen after it.

Today I work with around thirty clients a year, on video and from a small studio in Clerkenwell. Most are mid-career professionals and new leaders. Some are sent by their employers; many come on their own.

WHAT I BELIEVE

What I hold to.

  1. Decide on evidence, not on mood.

We test ideas with real conversations before you change anything big.

  2. Your experience travels further than you think.

Most of what you’ve learnt still counts; it just needs translating for the next room.

  3. Progress should show up in your week.

If nothing feels different at work after a month, we change the approach, not the goal.
